SWEEP OUT KATRINA - City Park
City Park Calls on Volunteers to Help “Sweep Out Katrina”
New Orleans City Park to Hold Katrina Clean Sweep Weekend

Katrina Clean Sweep Weekend will take place on November 5-6 from 9-3 in New Orleans City Park. Volunteers are to meet in the tennis court parking lots on Victory Drive across from Hines Carousel Gardens. From there, they will be directed to various areas of the park including Tad Gormley Stadium, Hines Carousel Gardens, Roosevelt Mall, and other places that were devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Cleanup efforts will include but are not limited to leaf and limb removal, weeding, raking and sweeping. There may also be opportunities for volunteers to help plant new seeds in the Botanical Garden.
City Park CEO, Bob Becker, said “New Orleans will rebuild. New Orleans City Park will rebuild also, but not without your help. Just as it is impossible to envision New York City without Central Park, so to is it impossible to rebuild New Orleans without reconstituting an integral part of its soul- City Park.”
Unfortunately, nearly all of City Park’s equipment and supplies were destroyed so volunteers are asked to bring their own cleaning supplies, including gloves, rakes, weed whackers, garbage bags and other essential yard tools. Please, however, do not bring chainsaws.
