CHRISTMAS TREES TO FIGHT COASTAL EROSION

Christmas Trees to Help Fight Coastal Erosion

Jefferson Parish officials are urging people to hang onto their Christmas trees. For the sixteenth year, the parish is participating in the Christmas tree marsh restoration Project. Organizers want all Jefferson Parish residents are asked to place their tree curbside on January eleventh for collection beginning on January twelfth. Trees should be stripped of all tinsel, garland, lights, ornaments and tree stands. Flocked or painted trees cannot be used with the project. The trees will be transported to the coast for placement in barrier fences. The project aims to slow the erosion of the wetland.
